Since its inception in 1986, American Girl has been a trusted partner for parents who want to raise their girls with confidence and character. For over 30 years, we have devoted our entire business to helping girls discover their sense of self and instill important values like honesty, courage, kindness, and compassion. You may know us best for our dolls, but we offer so much more—books, clothing, crafts, and original video series. Through this wide array of inspiring products and programming, we’re encouraging a new generation to write their own history and create a world we all want to live in. A wholly owned subsidiary of Mattel, American Girl is one of the nation’s top omni-channel marketers, with direct, retail, and publishing divisions that serve the American Girl brand and its customers. Over 33 million American Girl® dolls and more than 159 million American Girl® books have been sold through the company's catalogue, retail stores, and website since 1986.
